213 area code is one of the first three area codes created for California in 1947. As of right now, it covers only downtown Los Angeles and its direct surroundings. Originally, area code 213 was assigned to all of Southern California. Through time, it has been divided and split into many area codes, and now it is completely surrounded by area code 323.
